Background and Experience:

Over two decades of involvement with the horse industry including:

  • Jr. Appraiser - Sterling Equine Appraisals

  • Rider/Trainer - Meadow Creek Farms

  • Rider/Trainer - Willow Brook Farm

  • Rider/Trainer - J.L. Performance Horses

During the past 25 years, Darren has owned and shown horses to a variety of achievements.  Darren has piloted ponies and horses to multiple Championships at the Regional and National level.

From a very young age, Darren was an active participant in 4-H and Pony Club, learning the essential elements of horse management and horsemanship. After a foundation in Western riding, Darren moved to the Hunter / Jumper world, where he continues to train and compete with good success.

He showed his own ponies in the Pony Hunter and Children’s Hunter Divisions from local to A-rated shows. Riding his own, and leased horses, he also competed in the Big Eq classes (Mini-Medal, Medal / Maclay). Rounding out his Junior exhibitor show experiences, Darren competed a National Champion Miniature Horse in Hunter classes, placing Top 5 Regionally and qualifying for Nationals in just one show.

As an adult rider, Darren turned his focus to training and riding, specializing in Hunters and Jumpers. His most recent riding and training efforts have been to develop young stock beginning their jumper careers, with the aspirations of showing in the Grand Prix. He rode for Willow Brook Farm for five years, attending Jumper competitions throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic States. In this time, Darren was groom, exercise rider, and apprentice. Darren continues to develop his skills and knowledge, riding with long-time coach Michael Page, and lessoning with others including the luminary Peter Leone and the legendary Frank Chapot.

Professionally, Darren is driven to the same level of success he has experienced in the show ring. Recently, he earned his degree from John Jay College of Criminal Justice and he is now a full-time police officer. His unique combination of equestrian knowledge and legal perspective allow Darren to assess each appraisal situation with an unbiased view and honesty.
